Approvals are now in place, and construction of the new deck at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery will commence in the first week of February. The “invisible deck”, which has accommodated many successful functions over the last four and a half years, will now be “visible”. This will allow us to hold many varied activities for our members, and the broader community. The deck will also be available for hire.
Many thanks go to Somerset Regional Council, the Gambling Community Benefits Fund, Sponsors, local businesses, the general public and members.
Keep track of our progress on this page.
Feb 8: Security fencing erected.
Feb 9: Digging the trench.
Feb 11: Storm water drain completed & ground leveled.
Feb 13: Back stairs demolished.
We still need some funds to complete the deck. Please go to our donation page to donate to our deck fund.
The Deck Story
Since opening the Courthouse Art Gallery in 2012, our members, exhibited artworks, opening night attendance, demand for workshops and gallery visitors have continued to grow which is wonderful! To be able to manage this growth, KASI has identified the need to expand the Gallery and the best way of doing this is to add a large enclosed deck on the eastern side of the Gallery. This is an ideal spot as it will overlook the picturesque Fred Greensill Lake, so provides a peaceful place for artists and visitors alike to enjoy. Community support for our proposed deck has been overwhelming. People can see the benefits of having an all weather venue in such a lovely location, not just for the Gallery but for other group’s use as well.
We have completed the planning, application approval, and initial costing stage and are moving onto the development stage. The style of deck will complement the old Courthouse building.
After nearly 3 years of applying for grants, our perseverance has paid off! KASI and our members are very excited (and relieved) to announce that we have been successful in acquiring a grant from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) Gambling Community Benefit Fund for $35,000 (Round 89) to help construct a covered deck. Planning the construction (updating quotes, developing a project plan, allocating physical resources, sourcing materials etc) will commence soon.
A special thanks to the Gambling Community Benefit Committee, Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington MP, Kilcoy and District Cultural Village Committee, and many other people who have provided ongoing support, encouragement and advice.
In the meantime, KASI needs to raise additional funds for the deck, as the total cost is actually closer to $50,000. There have been a few initiatives to date (High Tea held in July, Buy a Plank etc) and a Spring Clean Auction, held on Saturday 8 October, 2016.
As a result of these initiatives, we are getting closer to our goal! We even have a ‘fundraising tide indicator’ on the front of the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery in Yowie Park which shows how we are going!
