KASI Happenings July 2016
Our Artist of the Month for July is Kris Wheeler. Kris first joined KASI this year as a member and has been painting most of her life, through school and later at Commercial Art and Design College.
Kris’ favourite medium is ‘ink and wash’ but she also enjoys the challenge of oils and watercolour!
Come down to the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during July and see Kris’ collection on our feature wall.
Our ‘informal art activities’ have continued over the past few weeks.
On Wednesday 22 June, a small but keen group of artists joined Sue Davy at the Courthouse Gallery for a morning workshop about learning how to create a Lino Print. Thanks to the generosity of Katelyn McCulloch, Art Teacher at Kilcoy State High School, participants were able to view a range of finished pieces before beginning their own attempts. It was not long before the keen lino-carvers mastered the techniques of creating textures, positive and negative shapes and interesting compositions. It was a busy and fun morning with artists coming from Toogoolawah and the Sunshine Coast to participate.
During the school holidays, Ceramic artist Elayne Moat ran 2 workshops for children at her Sandy Creek studio. About 14 local children participated and Elayne, mums and the kids all had a ball! Thanks Elayne! Don’t forget that Elayne now runs Ceramic classes at her Sandy Creek studio on 2nd Wednesday morning of the month from 9am. It is never too late to start and it is a lovely relaxing way to spend the morning! Contact her on 54981187 to book your place.
The next ‘informal art activity’ will be a ‘RAG RUG MAKING’ workshop – to be held at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery from 6pm Wednesday 27th July. $20 a head includes materials and small supper. Contact Julie Henley on 0414595262 to book your spot (maximum of 10).
The next quarterly exhibition changeover will be happening in early August and there will be an opening night to celebrate this and our 4th birthday at Yowie Park on Friday 5th August. Keep an eye out for further details!
Til then….be happy, be creative!
