October Artist of the Month
Congratulations to our member, Sonia Border, for being our October Artist of the Month!
Sonia grew up on a sheep property, spent time in a boarding school (hated it) and later attended Armidale teachers college (loved it). She went on to teach primary school in Coonamble, then married a farmer there and raised 3 children. Sonia later moved to a cattle property in the Goondiwindi area in 1982.
Somewhere in between teaching, family, chasing cows, keeping the books, cooking, gardening, tennis and then golf, Sonia has always found time to paint and draw a little. She has also attended a few McGregor summer school workshops, in Toowoomba with Michael Winters and Donald Frend.
After losing her husband several years ago, Sonia is now retired and living in Noosaville with her lovely partner Bill and enjoys painting with the Timbeerwah artists on a weekly basis. Sonia says “Living on the coast is a new challenge, new scenery, coastal birds and plants, it’s lusher, greener and the waves are more difficult than the western plains ever were!”
Come down and see Sonia’s work on the Courthouse Art Gallery feature wall during October.
