Almost ready to build our deck!
Member Artists, Friends of the Gallery, Somerset Regional Councillors, colleagues in nearby art galleries and regular attendees of our exhibition opening nights will tell you how persistent the Kilcoy Art Society Inc (KASI) Management Committee has been in seeking support and funds to build a covered deck on the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery.
Since opening the Courthouse Art Gallery in 2012, our members, exhibited artworks, opening night attendance, demand for workshops and gallery visitors have continued to grow which is wonderful! To be able to manage this growth, KASI has identified the need to expand the Gallery and the best way of doing this is to add a large enclosed deck on the eastern side of the Gallery. This is an ideal spot as it will overlook the picturesque Fred Greensill Lake, so provides a peaceful place for artists and visitors alike to enjoy. Community support for our proposed deck has been overwhelming. People can see the benefits of having an all weather venue in such a lovely location, not just for the Gallery but for other group’s use as well.
Well…after nearly 3 years of applying for grants, our perseverance has paid off! KASI and our members are very excited (and relieved) to announce that we have been successful in acquiring a grant from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) Gambling Community Benefit Fund for $35,000 to help construct a covered deck. Planning the construction (developing a project plan, allocating physical resources, sourcing materials etc) will commence shortly.
A special thanks to the Gambling Community Benefit Committee, Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington MP, Kilcoy and District Cultural Village Committee, John Robinson (Former RSL President), Ian Badman, members of the public and KASI members for all their support.
