2017 National Youth Week Activities
Somerset Regional Council organised a range of free activities during this year’s National Youth Week (NYW), held 31st March through to the 9th April, 2017. The 2017 NYW theme was ‘BE BOLD, BE BRAVE, BE YOU’!
As part of the celebrations, the Kilcoy Art Society Inc (KASI) ran an art activity in Kilcoy Skate Park, Wednesday 5th April from 2–4pm, alongside the Council’s free bbq and other skate park activities. Although the weather was not the best, 15 local youths enjoyed the opportunity to try their hand at creatively spray painting a skateboard, which they could take home for $1! All they need to do now is add wheels!
A 2017 Kilcoy NYW banner created by Kilcoy State High School students, under the direction of Visual Art Teacher, Katelyn McCulloch during the lead up to the event, was also on display at the Kilcoy Skate Park! The banner captures Kilcoy’s beautiful green rolling hills and highlights the various recreational activities that local youth can enjoy around the Kilcoy area such as motor x, 4wd-ing, hunting, fishing, and being chased by yowies etc!
KASI would like to thank Michelle Francis, Youth Engagement Officer, Somerset Regional Council for inviting us to participate in this year’s NYW and for providing the gazebo, tables, chairs and some art supplies for the art activity AND Cr Dan Hall for the yummy sausage sizzle!
