AOM October: Dr Dawn Evans
As we thank and congratulate our September Artist of the Month (AOM) Lindsay Conroy, we also welcome Kilcoy Art Society’s Vice President and member artist Dr Dawn Evans as our October AOM.
Since childhood, Dawn has had an interest in unique art and has experimented with various media including Oils, Acrylics, Charcoal, Watercolour, Watercolour Pencils, Graphite, Silverpoint, and Photography. Having dabbled in art lessons in the United Kingdom, she returned to Sydney where she took up Lapidary, faceting and silver smithing, designing and making many pieces.
After her move to Queensland, Dawn settled on her deer Farm at Monsildale, which increased her interest in anatomy and saw potential in the bones and antlers found there. This led to her recycling bone into wearable art and designer carving for home decoration and a place at the Abbey Medieval Festival where her art form has become popular.
Since retiring from Medical Practice, Dawn has been working on skill development, both in drawing, painting and photography, with particular interest in compositional excellence. This development has led to the acquisition of many awards both in her Art and Photography.
Dawn has gradually moved away from literal translations of art into an enigmatic fantasy of her own creation, depicting nature with a unique twist, sometimes quirky or humorous, with hidden innuendo and a generous helping of unabashed honesty.
But don’t just take our word for it – come and view Dr Dawn’s artwork on display on the feature wall in the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery for the month of October!
A reminder that October is also the last month of KASI’s current quarterly exhibition before changeover in early November. The Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery is open 9am to 1pm, Thursday through to Monday.
