Margaret Roper

I was born in Townsville 70 years ago, and have been a Queenslander all my life, so far. Much of my adult life has been spent in the bush, and therefore I have a great love of anything to do with life on the land.

I am a late starter to the world of art, as I only began learning to paint in Woodford about 6 years ago. A small art group was formed at the Baptist Church, as the shop there sold, among other things, art supplies. Our teacher was my daughter, Tracey Bennett; and this became a wonderful time of friendship, learning and fun. Although this group no longer exists, a few of us still get together each week here in Kilcoy at the home of one of our original class members, Jan Russell.

All my work is painted in acrylics, as I find it a very forgiving medium. Painting has given me such joy, and I hope anyone who purchases my work finds joy in it too. This is the first time I have joined a Gallery, so I look forward to this new phase of being an ‘artist’
