AOM April: Colin Van Kruining

Colin Van Kruining is KASI’s AOM for April. Born in Holland, Colin’s family immigrated to Australia in 1958. At the age of 16, he worked with his uncle Wim Kortland (well known artist – now deceased) for two years, and under his guidance, developed a talent for painting. Over the following few years Colin concentrated on music and was a musician in several bands and in the late 1970’s formed a band in Melbourne as lead singer/ guitarist. To this day, Colin still records and mixes his own CDs.

Colin started work as a Painter and Decorator over 40 years ago in Melbourne and continued his trade when he moved to Queensland with his family in 1994. It was through this trade that he discovered a further use for Dulux paints, which to this day, is still his preferred medium when capturing a new artwork!

Colin has been a member of KASI for several years now and has often won the quarterly exhibition ‘People’s Choice’ award at the Courthouse Art Gallery. Other achievements over the past 5 years have included several champion and first prize awards at the Noosa, Caboolture, Redcliffe, and Pine Rivers annual shows and at the Redcliffe and Bribie Island Art Societies’ Art Shows. He has also been awarded both first and highly commended prizes at the Pine Rivers Art Alliance and Bundaberg Art Festival in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Colin enjoys painting water and landscapes, native flora and fauna and has also captured intricate European holiday memories on canvas.

Please come down to the Courthouse Art Gallery, Yowie Park, Kilcoy and view Colin Van Kruining’s work on the gallery’s feature wall during April.  You won’t be disappointed!
