Happenings

It’s been a busy couple of months at the gallery – here’s an overview….

Sunday Roast Lunch

We held a fundraiser ‘Sunday Roast Lunch’ on the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery’s Lakeside Deck Sunday 14th April. Over 45 people enjoyed a succulent and delicious 2 course lunch while sipping on a beverage or two and taking in the beautiful view overlooking Fred Greensill Lake. Some guests even went home with a new artwork, which of course is fantastic, as it keeps our artists inspired to continue their work!

This was the first event where our new tables and chairs were used in a ‘sit down’ setting. It really was a picture and a great way to spend Sunday afternoon! Thank you to the KASI members and volunteers who made this fundraising event such a success, and to all patrons who attended the lunch and supported us. Profits from the lunch will go towards purchasing PVC awnings for the deck so that people can continue to use the venue in all kinds of weather!

Meet the FOGgers

KASI held a ‘Meet the FOGgers’ meeting in April on The Lakeside Deck.  A ‘FOG’ is short for ‘Friend of the Gallery’ and is generally someone who loves art, even if not an artist themselves, and wants to support their local Art Gallery.  Once a member, FOGs receive information by email about up and coming KASI events so are one of the first to learn about workshops they may like to attend (at a discounted rate).  Not bad for only $5 per year!

Market stalls

Our second Art and Craft markets were held on the Gallery’s Lakeside Deck, in conjunction with the Kilcoy Yowie Markets, on Saturday 27th April. These are proving very popular with people to pick up an ‘original’ bargain and provide an opportunity to visit the Gallery. We will have markets on the deck on the last Saturday of each month. Come and have a look!

Kilcoy Sketchers Meetups

The Kilcoy Sketchers group is a very informal and ad hoc group with members and other interested artists getting together to inspire each other and enjoy a relaxed session while working on their own piece, whether it be a sketch, painting or other media.  It is free to participate and you don’t have to be a KASI member.  Just bring your art gear, a chair and your own morning tea and lunch!  These meetups are held monthly on the last Friday of the month. At each meetup the next venue is decided.  If you are interested in joining this group, please email our secretary.

Recent Workshops

A Candle Making Workshop was held at the Gallery Tuesday 9th April to learn how to make soy wax candles, using different types of fragrances. It was great to see kids as well as adults come along to have some fun!  Thanks to KASI member Carol Skyring for running this workshop.

A Rag Rug Workshop was held at the Gallery on the evening of Thursday 2 May.  Fifteen (15) enthusiastic people attended this popular class, this time to learn how to make a ‘Toothbrush’ and a crocheted Rag Rug. Thanks to KASI members Di Taylor and Julie Henley for running this workshop.
