AOM January: Kris Wheeler

Here we are at the start of a new year, after a HUGE year in 2018 for the Kilcoy Art Society Inc (KASI) with the establishment of THE LAKESIDE DECK, workshops, exhibitions and various events!

2019 is shaping up to be another big year at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery, including workshops, exhibitions, community events and our always changing ‘Artist of the Month’ feature wall, which kicks off with our January AOM, Kris Wheeler.

Kris has been an active member of KASI for a few years now and is a very talented artist. Kris is married to David, is a mother of four and a grandmother to eleven.

For as long as Kris can remember, painting and drawing, in its many mediums and styles, has always been part of her life.  She sold my first pair of paintings at the age of 15, while studying Art in High School.

She was born and raised in Sydney and moved to Queensland in her early 20s. In her late 30’s (after 16 years as an ‘at home’ mum), she studied commercial art and graphic design, winning the best folio award.

Whilst ink and wash are her favourite mediums, Kris also enjoys working with watercolour and oils and has recently tried her hand at pastels. She enjoys painting portraits of her grandchildren and the challenge of turning people’s favourite photos into paintings.

Kris also won first prize in the ‘Minds On Canvas’ art exhibition organised by Kilcoy’s local ‘Nuts and Bolts’ Support Group and held at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during National Mental Health Week October 2017.

Make sure you visit the Courthouse Art Gallery, Yowie Park, Kilcoy during January and view Kris’ beautiful artwork.
